Pinterest, the popular scrapbooking-style social site, just updated their iconic workmark logo.
They retired their thin script font in exchange for a slightly modified version of Neue Haas Grotesk Black.
It’s a bit of an odd mix with the bold new wordmark alongside their scripty “P” icon, and at first glance feels like a disjointed combination of competing styles. But, since Pinterest almost entirely uses their icon badge, which remained unchanged during the update, It’s unlikely you’ll even see much of the new wordmark.
So why would they update their logo? Pinterest has mastered the art of captivating personal users, but has remained a light weight in the business realm. The logo redesign is likely an attempt on Pinterest’s part to compete with social peers like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, and to gain recognition as a valid business resource.
